How to Make Paper

Materials:
    Shredded newspaper
    Water
A piece or 2 of construction paper for color
    Blender
    Old frame
    piece of screen
Flower pedals, small leaves, herbs, tiny flowers, etc. (optional)
Directions:   Make your paper screen by removing the glass and back from an old picture frame (whatever size you desire). Trace the outside of the frame onto the screen and then cut it out. Staple the screen to the frame. Make sure the staples are very close together so it fits very snug. Put the screen aside on a well-covered surface or even outside.

Tear the newspaper into 1 - 2-inch pieces until you get about 2 cups, you can also include torn pieces of construction paper at this point. Put your newspaper into a medium sauce pan and cover with about a cut of water. Heat and stir until the paper starts falling apart. Put this mixture into a blender (or food processor) and blend until smooth. If the mixture gets too thick simply add a little extra water.

Once your mixture is cool enough, remove it from the blender a little at a time and place it on a screen. Spread it out flat as you place the goop on the screen. You do not want the paper too thick and you will have extra goop leftover. Once you get your paper to the desired thickness, you can place your flowers, leaves, etc. and squish out ar much water as you can by gently pressing.

Now you set your screen aside to dry. Set it out of the way, placing tin cans or other items under the four corners of the frame so air can circulate all around it. Drying tame make take a few days, be patient! Once it is totally dry you should be able to gently peel the paper off the frame. You can carefully iron it if wanted.

If, for some reason, your paper breaks, just recycle it into new paper!

Activity Ideas
Make a Shiny Collage
Use empty chocolate wrappers to create a collage. You could use Easter egg wrappers as well as everyday chocolate bars. Makes a very shiny picture! A great way to recycle Easter candy wrappers!

Eggshell Mosaic

Save and clean eggshells. Children can color eggshells with markers or paint. Then, have children spread glue on a piece of cardboard. Eggshells can be broken into smaller pieces and placed in glue to create a design.

Collage
An artistic collage work may include newspaper clippings, ribbons, bits of colored or hand-made papers, portions of other artwork, photographs, and such, glued to a solid support or canvas.

One of the most effective ways of doing collage with little kids is to tear up little squares of tissue paper, have the children crumple then into little balls, dip the balls into white glue and stick onto an outline.

Collage Projects
Materials: Pictures of friends, or family, Scissors and glue to assemble collage , Color copy machine or scanner and color printer
Directions:  After making collage, get several color copies or use your scanner and color printer to make copies.   You can frame it, or put magnets on the back.   You can make a smaller copy and cut and fold it around a plastic juice can for a pencil holder.   You can slip one in the front of a 3-ring notebook. or cover a pencil box with your collage.

Texture Collages
Provide the children with a variety of different materials to create a collage. Foil, lace, paper, cloth, string, lace, ribbon are just a few examples of materials that can be used.

Torn Paper Art
Have your child tear many different colors of paper. Let your child glue the torn pieces of paper onto card stock.

Rainbow Eggshell Collage

Use food coloring to color crushed eggshells a few different colors. (You can use eggshells from eggs you have used; there is no need to hard boil these egg shells.) Let your child glue the eggshells to a piece a paper after the dye has dried.

Cereal Rainbows
You will need a box of Fruit Loops (or similar cereal), paper, pencil and glue. For younger children, you should draw a rainbow shape on to the paper then have the children glue the fruit loops inside the shape. Older children can make their own rainbow shape, or trace it. You may also do this project as open ended art by allowing the children to make whatever they wish with the fruit loops. Okay, for the taste part, most children will want to eat the cereal while working, provide the children with 2 bowls of cereal, one for the art,
and one to eat.

Include the following collections of objects and materials for children to create, discover, and use for imaginary play. Store collections in boxes or baskets to be accessible at any time (indoors or outdoors) for children to enhance their  play.

Water Color Paper
