Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said, Oh, my it's getting late!
The second one said, There are owls in the air!
The third one said, But we don't care!
The fourth one said, Let's run and run and run!
The fifth one said, I'm ready for some fun!
Then "Woooo" went the wind
And out (clap) went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Mr. Pumpkin Head
Materials: Pumpkin and Mr. Potato head pieces.
Direction: Using a medium sized pumpkin, poke some holes where the eyes, nose and mouth should be
(include hat and ears). Let the children decorate "Mr. Pumpkin Head" using Mr. Potato Head
pieces.

Pumpkin File Folder Game
Cut out 20 small pumpkins out of orange construction paper. Write the numbers 1-10 and draw black
dots (representing seeds) to match the number, on 10 pumpkins. Do the same to the other 10. You
should have 20 matching pumpkins. Glue 10 of them to the inside of a file folder. Glue an envelope or
plastic baggie to the back of the folder and place the matching 10 in the envelope. This becomes a
matching game for the children helping them learn their numbers. You can also use real pumpkin seeds
and they have to place the correct amount on each pumpkin.

For your toddler: Line a table with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth. Cut the top off a pumpkin (adults
only) so that your child can help you reach inside with a big spoon and take out all the seeds. Let your
child play with the seeds and “pumpkin innards.” This kind of sensory play is great fun for toddlers who
love to get messy. Be aware, though, that some children won’t like the feeling of the smushy pumpkin
and will want to get washed up right away. When you are done emptying the pumpkin, your child can
paint it using washable tempera paints or draw on it using washable markers.

Straw Pumpkin Art
Materials: white paint, paper, drinking straw
Directions:  Draw a picture of a pumpkin on paper. Add a few drops of orange paint on the edge of the
paper. Using a straw have them blow the paint across the paper.

Words of Wisdom

"A true leader has the confidence to stand
alone, the courage to make tough
decisions, and the compassion to listen to
the needs of others. He does not set out to
be a leader, but becomes one by the
quality of his actions and the integrity of his
intent."
