Activity Ideas:
Tie Dye Beach Towel
Materials: White (or Light) Beach Towel, 2 or 3 Colors of Fabric Paint, Spray Bottle, Laser Printer Letter-
Sized Labels
Directions: Using your laser printer, print name as large as possible, one letter per sheet, on a label.
Print only the outline if possible. It is not recommended that ink jet printers be used. Cut out letters. Peel
off backing and apply them to your towel, pressing down firmly. Squeeze first color of fabric paint into
spray bottle. Dilute with water. Spray towel leaving white areas for other color(s). Rinse out spray bottle
and continue with additional colors. Follow manufacturer's instructions for drying paint. Saturating towel
with water will help to remove lettering labels.

Whales in Water
Take a clear empty 2 liter drink bottle and filled it about 1/3 full of water. Take a small blue balloon, and
as it is held in the bottle, blow up the balloon and tie a knot in the end. Add a couple of drops of blue
food coloring to the water. Turn the bottle on its side & there is a whale floating in the waves.

Paper Plate Jellyfish
Gather a package of paper plates, glue, streamers and scissors. Cut each plate in half. Give each child
1/2 of the plate. Cut a long strip of crepe paper and mark into sixteen 6" sections. Instruct the kids
to cut the crepe paper on the marks and then glue these pieces onto the bottom edge to look like
tentacles. Use crayons to make a face on the plate.

Dinosaur Bone Hunt
Boil and clean chicken bones. Be sure there are no sharp edges. Bury them in a sand box for the
children to find.

Bouncing Jell-O
Pour clear soft drink into the glass. Add some salt and then some powdered Jell-O mix into the glass.
Watch the Jell-O bounce up and down inside the cup as the Jello clings to the air bubbles

Bubble Box Painting
Materials: Large cardboard box, 4 bubble blowing solutions, bubble wand, clothespins, easel paper, food
coloring.  Directions: Make a ground easel form the card board box by cutting the top off. Attach easel
paper with clothespins along the outer portion of the box. Pour a different color of food coloring into each
container of bubble solution. Have the children blow the bubbles onto the paper.

The Zapper
Materials: Styrofoam dinner plate, Styrofoam cup, A piece of wool cloth An aluminum pie plate, Scotch
tape
Directions: Rub the Styrofoam plate with the wool cloth for one full minute.  Place this charged plate
upside down on a table or on the floor.  Tape the Styrofoam cup to the middle of the aluminum pie plate.
Using the cup as a handle, place the pie plate on top of the charged Styrofoam plate.  Bring your finger
near the pie plate and you will feel a little shock – and hear a “snap”.  If the room is dark, you should also
see a little spark.

Drip, Drip, Splash
Everyone sits in a circle while one person walks around the outside of the circle with a large cup of water,
dripping a little  bit on everyone's head. When they decide to "tag" someone,  they empty the whole cup
of water onto one of the kid's head and yell "splash!" It's a great way to cool off on a hot summer day!
